DAY 1: ATHENS
Upon our arrival in Athens our representative will meet us and assist in our transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (D)
DAY 2: ATHENS-CORINTH-CENCHREA-ATHENS
Our morning excursion out of Athens takes us by the Saronic Gulfvia the historic Corinthian Canal (quick stop for photos) to ancient Corinth(Acts 18:1-18).It was to this megalopolis where the apostle Paul came and worked, established a thriving church, subsequently sending two of his epistles now part of the New Testament.Here, see all of the sites associated with his ministry: theAgora, the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Odeon, the BemaandGallio’sSeat.The small archaeological museum here is an absolute must! We continue to visit to Lechaion and also see the ruins of early Christian 5th century basilica at the ancient port of Cenchreae before returningto Athens(Acts 17:15). We will climb up to the marble-capped Acropolis and visit the famous Parthenon and the Erechtheion.We will then walk to nearby Mars' Hill(or Areopagus) (Acts 17:22)where the Apostle Paul delivered his well-known sermon. Our tour continues with the highlights of modern Athens: we pass by the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament House, Presidential Palace, Panathenian Stadium, Templeof Olympian Zeus, the Academy, the University andthe National Library. Dinner and overnight at hotels in Athens. (B,D)
DAY 3: ATHENS-DELPHI
Today we will depart from Athensfor our Northern Greecetour beginning with Delphi where the priestess Pythia pronounced her famous oracles in the Templeof Apollo. Visits to the theatre and stadium, dinner and overnight stay in Delphi. (B,D)
DAY 4: DELPHI-METEORA-KALAMBAKA
In the morning we will depart for Kalambaka, location of the spectacular Meteora with its thousand-year-old Byzantinemonasteries perched precariously on huge rocks. The view from here is beautiful. Dinner and overinght stay in Kalambaka. (B,D)
DAY 5: KALAMBAKA-BEREA-THESSALONICA
In the morning we will drive toBerea, where the Apostle Paul arrived and according to his custom went to the synagogue, where to his pleasant surprise, he discovered that these Jews where “more noble” than those he had encountered in Thessalonica. We will see the Byzantine mosaic in the monument commemorating his preaching. According to the local tradition, it was at this place where he stood and delivered his sermons. We then continue to Thessalonica where Paul also preached and to where he sent hisfirst and second letters to the Thessalonians. Here we see the Egnatian Road, the Galerius Arch, theCitadel and the Archaelogical Museum. Dinner and overnight stay in Thessalonica. (B,D)
DAY 6: THESSALONICA-PHILIPPI-KAVALA
Early in the morning we will enjoy a picturesque drive to the city of Philippi, where Paul established the first church in Europe. Here we see the river where Lydiaand possibly the jailer were baptized and the ancient Forum and jail where Paul and Silas were kept. On the return journey, we pass by the beautiful city of Kavala(Neapolis) for dinner and overnight stay. (B,D)
DAY 7: KAVALA-ATHENS
We will begin our drive back to Athensvia Tempi with a short stop in Thermopylae where we will see the Statue of Leonidas commemorating the location where he and his 300 Spartans stopped the powerful Persian army and the hill where the weapons and remains of the warriors are buried. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Athens. (B,D)
DAY 8: DEPARTURE
We will meet our representative who will assist in our transfer to Athens Airportfor our departure flight. (B)
