Athens, Sounion, Delphi

Itinerary ;

 

Day 1 :  Athens – Arrival
Upon our arrival in Athens transfer to the hotel and rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Athens.
 

Day 2 :  Athens
After breakfast enjoy a half-day morning tour of Athens, combining many of the cities principal modern and classical sights. This tour includes an overview of the modern city and striking contrasts to the remains of its glorious past. Drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square, the Panathenian Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896). See the Presidential Palace (ex Royal Palace), government buildings and elegant homes. Drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and see the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, National Library and Omonia Square. In contrast, we visit the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus and the crowning beauty and glory that was Athens, the Acropolis with its many monuments atop its rocky base, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens. We also visit the Acropolis Museum. Return to the hotel. Afternoon is free. Overnight in Athens. (B)
 

Day 3 :  Cape Sounion
Breakfast at the hotel and morning at leisure. In the afternoon enjoy our Sounion tour. Driving along the coastal rood passing by the wonderful beaches of GLYFADA, VOULIAGMENI, VARKIZA and countless coves, one has a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf.

A crowning feature of the tour Cape SOUNION, dominated by the spectacular Temple of POSEIDON overlooking the Aegean Sea. Return to the hotel in Athens for overnight. (B)

 

Day 4 :  Delphi
After breakfast, depart from the hotel for a full-day tour to DELPHI. Drive through Levadia and Arachova (famous for its bright multicoloured carpets). Arrive in DELPHI, the ancient sanctuary of Apollo. Visit the Museum where one can see among other archaeological treasures, the unique bronze Charioteer, then proceed through the sacred way to the Athenian treasury. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Temple of Apollo, the Castalia Spring. Return to the hotel in Athens for overnight. (B,L)

 

Day 5 :  Athens - Departure
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your departure. (B)
